Since Elon Musk took over the social media platform in October 2022, misinformation and right-wing content has become more rife. Numerous public figures, including Elton John,  KISS‘ Gene Simmons, Whoopi Goldberg and Neil Young all quit the platform shortly after Musk’s takeover.

There has been a further exodus of users from X/Twitter after Donald Trump was re-elected as President of the United States last week. Musk has subsequently been appointed one of the heads of Trump’s new Department of Government Efficiency.

Now, The Last Dinner Party has decided to join the masses leaving the site after Trump’s re-election following another spike in hateful content, particularly misogyny and racism.

“ATTENTION: We’ll shortly be deleting this account due to the platform’s continued spread of misinformation and right-wing political bias, particularly in light of the US election,” they wrote in what is presumably a final post.

The band has been known to speak about politics from time to time. During their appearance at Glastonbury this summer, vocalist Abigail Morris introduced hit single ‘Nothing Matters’ with a short speech, asking voters to “protect each other and just having some fucking empathy.”

She began: “I just want to take a minute [to speak] because of how many people are here watching, and on television too. I think we all know who we are voting for, but it doesn’t end with the Tories being kicked out,” she said. “It really is up to us, the people, to make the change.”

They were recently forced to cut their European tour short citing “emotional, mental, physical burnout”. Several concerts on their UK and Ireland tour in Cardiff, Lincoln, Birmingham, Nottingham, Bristol and Southampton were also scrapped due to ill health.

In other news, the band has been confirmed to be opening for Olivia Rodrigo at her biggest ever UK show with a headline slot at BST Hyde Park 2025.
