With December now under way, Netflix has several Christmas offerings, including the new romcom The Merry Gentlemen, but what songs are on the soundtrack?
The new feature film arrived on the platform on November 20 and stars Britt Robertson (Tomorrowland, The Space Between Us) and Chad Michael Murray (One Tree Hill, Gilmore Girls) as the central romantically-destined couple.
Written by Marla Sokoloff, known for her appearances in Desperate Housewives and Dude, Where’s My Car?, and directed by Peter Sullivan (12 Gifts Of Christmas, Secret Obsession), it follows the story of a Broadway dancer who stages an all-male, Christmas-themed revue in the hope of saving her parents’ small-town performing venue.
Robertson has spoken about what attracted her to the film, telling Netflix: “When I read the script, I was like, ‘This is my kind of Christmas movie!’ I didn’t even have to do any of the burlesque. I get to just watch a bunch of very talented dudes do it.”
“My character, Ashley, decides to take her skill as a dancer and choreographer and marries that with some hot dudes at the bar to make The Merry Gentlemen show. She may or may not save the bar …”
Despite the strong competition from other Christmas-themed titles – Netflix alone also has Hot Frosty, Our Little Secret and Meet Me Next Christmas in its most-viewed charts at the moment – the film is finding an audience.
It does, however, sit on a 42 per cent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, and an even lowlier 21 per cent audience rating.
