All three members – Jamie xx, Romy and Oliver Sim – confirmed they had been working in the studio, in the band’s first update this year.

Last summer, Jamie xx gave the last major update and said they were working on a new album and are “having a good time” while doing so.

After being asked about what it is like to be reunited and work again with his fellow bandmates since they have all embarked on solo paths, he said at the time: “Yes, it is like The Avengers! We’ve said it ourselves. It’s always so nice to get back together with them. I mean, they came on stage with me at Glastonbury as well, and I couldn’t stop smiling. I was aware that I was on TV, but I just felt like such a dork.”

The last time they all teamed up was on the DJ and producer’s 2024 single ‘Waited All Night’ from his album ‘In Waves’.

In a statement shared alongside the track, Jamie said at the time: “Thank you to my two best friends and musical siblings, Oliver and Romy. It’s wonderful to have the gang back together, working in new ways, working out new lives, I wouldn’t be here without them.”

Romy and Sim added: “We’ve loved collaborating on our recent solo projects but it’s
been a while since the three of us came together on one track. We’re so pleased that this
was the place we met up again. Proud to play a small part in this long awaited, brilliant
album. We’re your biggest fans Jamie.”

Previously speaking to NME on the red carpet at the 2024 BRIT Awards about The xx’s new music that’s in the works, Romy also shared: “We’re just keeping it really open and we’re up for trying new things, but it sounds like us. That’s all I can say right now.

“We’ve learned a lot from our different solo projects and it’s cool to learn from each other again. We grew up together and we had a lot of experiences, but to then have time apart and learn new skills, get new musical ideas and experiences and compare them… it’s been a healthy break.”

The long awaited record will be the trio’s first since their 2017 album ‘I See You’.
