The Wednesday star has just been announced to star in the film Shutout alongside Robert De Niro.

The film which follows pool hustler Jake Kejeune (De Niro) is being directed by David O. Russell.

According to a synopsis, via Deadline: “Having lived and lost by the roll of a ball in smoky backroom halls, Jake encounters Mia (Ortega), a young prodigy whose raw, electrifying talent reignites a fire he thought long extinguished.

“Sensing a rare opportunity to shape a legend, Jake takes Mia under his wing, honing her instincts and sharpening her natural gift. Together, they plunge into the ruthless world of high-stakes pool, where the line between unimaginable fortune and devastating failure is razor-thin.”

But the film, which is yet to go into production, has already been greeted with a mixed response from Ortega’s fans with one writing that she’s “quite possibly the worst at choosing projects of all time.”

Another added: “There’s nothing we can do…this is where we stand back and let Jenna take her lashings…cause I don’t defend with something like this…and fans have every right to be upset and pissed…everything under the sun…doesn’t make you a bad fan it just means you have every right to call this out.”

A third went on: “Never been so interested in an actress but so uninterested in their upcoming projects.”

Others though defended her for taking the role with one writing: “You’re calling someone out for deciding to work with David O. Russell and Robert DeNiro? I don’t get it. Are you not familiar with their colossal bodies of work?”

Another added: “A project from the director who gave us American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook opposite Robert De Niro is going to be really good actually.”

Others also praised her for working with De Niro with one writing: “Sharing the screen with one of the best actors of all time, I don’t think it’s a bad choice.”

Another added: “Working with Robert De Niro what a tragedy.”

Her most recent movie Death Of A Unicorn, in which she stars alongside Paul Rudd received a two star score from NME. “It’s got gory moments and lots of jokes, but few are any good,” the review added.

Elsewhere, the first trailer for season two of Wednesday recently dropped along with full release details.

Luis Guzmán, Isaac Ordonez and Fred Armisen are all set to return while Steve Buscemi will be making his first appearance as the school’s new principal, Barry Dort. Lady Gaga will also feature in the new series.
