The Scottish rock trio took to social media earlier this week to confirm that they are back together and have something in the works.
In the short clip shared on Tuesday (January 28), Simon Neil and twin brothers James and Ben Johnston were seen walking together towards a door, alongside the cryptic caption: “Back at it”.
It isn’t yet clear exactly what the band has planned, and their return will likely mark them either beginning rehearsals for upcoming live shows or heading back to the studio to work on their first new album since 2021.
Forthcoming shows this summer include huge festival slots at Rock Am Ring, TRNSMT and Rock For People. Visit here for remaining tickets and find the new post below.

The update comes on the heels of the band’s six sold-out shows in London and Glasgow last October, as they took to the stage in celebration of their albums ‘Blackened Sky’ (2002), ‘The Vertigo of Bliss’ (2003) and ‘Infinity Land’ (2004).
Comprising three shows in each city, the gigs saw Neil and co. commemorate their early days by playing one of the three albums in full each night, as well as a selection of fan favourites from elsewhere in their discography.
Before then, Biffy announced limited edition pressings of their first three albums ahead of their tour and took over the TK Maxx Presents Live at The Piece Hall in Halifax to play their first performance since 2022.
If their comeback does signal another LP, it’ll mark their first since 2021’s ‘The Myth Of The Happily Ever After’. At the time, NME gave the record a four-star review and shared: “What could have been a hodgepodge of would-be B-sides and ideas found down the back of the sofa has turned out rather differently. Yes, ‘The Myth Of The Happily Ever After’ outshine its predecessor, but it could also – ironically – be the most cohesive Biffy album to date.”
In the time since, Neil has been busy with his long-mooted grindcore side-project Empire State Bastard, which he founded alongside Oceansize‘s Mike Vennart, Slayer‘s Dave Lombardo and Bitch Falcon‘s Naomi Macleod. The group released their debut album ‘Rivers Of Heresy‘ last year.
In spring 2023 the frontman also shared an update on his other projects, Marmaduke Duke and Tippie Toes, saying that records from both were still on the way.
Having first touched on the various side projects back in 2020, the musician told NME in 2023 that music with Tippie Toes was further along than that of Marmaduke Duke. “Well believe it or not, I did just spend two weeks working on Tippie Toes. We do have an album’s worth of material, we just need to edit it,” he said in the In Conversation chat. “I don’t want to be flippant with music and would never put it out because it’s almost ready. Tippie Toes is going to have a purpose and be special.”
He continued: “Marmaduke Duke is already special and will complete that, which John [JP Reid, Sucioperro] and I are a bit scared of.”
“Once that’s done, it’s over and the Duke is dead. But, I don’t want to distract from this. This has got a bit of momentum for us, emotionally, spiritually and physically. Biffy is also always at the top of my list, that’s who I am. I need to make time for my four wives.”
