Actor Anthony Ramos has criticised Madonna for her alleged behaviour during a stage performance of Hamilton.

The actor and singer recalled seeing the ‘Like A Virgin’ singer in the crowd for the Broadway musical back in 2015. At the time, he was a part of the Lin-Manuel Miranda production taking on the dual role of Philip Hamilton and John Laurens.
Speaking during a new episode of Watch What Happens Live! with Andy Cohen, Ramos named the Queen Of Pop as the most “terrifying” celebrity he had seen during his time on Hamilton, and called her out for allegedly looking at her iPad throughout the show.
“The most terrifying was Madonna, with her iPad in her face. She was like this the whole time,” he said, imitating her staring down at the device. “I was like: ‘Damn, shorty. If you’re not enjoying it that much, you know the door’s right there? You ain’t gotta stay here.’”
Ramon remained in the role until November 2016.
His comments with Andy Cohen build on other rumours surrounding Madonna’s visit to the Broadway show in 2015. That same year, Lin-Manuel Miranda – who developed the show and also took on the titular role of Alexander Hamilton – got fans talking when he revealed that he had banned a celebrity from going backstage.
Taking to X/Twitter, he wrote: “Tonight was the first time I asked stage management NOT to allow a celebrity (who was texting all through Act Two) backstage,” he wrote, before adding a ‘No Selfie For You’ hashtag (via Playbill).
While he did not say who the person was, it was widely speculated that it was Madonna as she was seen attending the show around this time.
Miranda never confirmed these rumours, and Madonna’s publicist shared a statement denying that it was the ‘Celebration’ singer he was referring to. Speaking to Us Weekly, they stated: “It’s not true. She was invited backstage four different times. She texted post-show when they were doing their fundraising pitch. Madonna had already made a generous donation.”
Hamilton: An American Musical made its Broadway debut in August 2015. Created entirely by Miranda, the show reimagines the life of US Founding Father Alexander Hamilton through a blend of hip-hop, R&B, and traditional musical theatre.
It soon became a cultural phenomenon, going on to win 11 Tony Awards, a Pulitzer Prize for Drama, and a record-breaking cast album. It later had a critically-acclaimed filmed version released on Disney+ in 2020.
Earlier this month, the original cast reunited for a medley performance at the 2025 Tony Awards. Celebrating a decade since the show was first performed, Miranda was joined by Leslie Odom Jr., Phillipa Soo, Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Christopher Jackson, Jonathan Groff, Ariana DeBose, and more.
As for Madonna, the singer recently announced the release of her long-rumoured ‘Veronica Electronica’ album, which was conceived in 1998 as a companion to ‘Ray Of Light’.
She has also been hinting at new music, telling fans that she has been working with producer Stuart Price again, and that the end result may be a second part to her album ‘Confessions On A Dance Floor’.
There have been reports that she is working on a show based on her life for Netflix too, and potentially teaming up with Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy for the limited series.
