The London duo – comprising Amy Love and Georgia South – put a blistering heavy rock spin on the US rapper/singer and NME 100 star‘s viral hit for the Spotify Singles series.
“Doechii is such a visionary, whose creativity is really pushing things forward,” the band explained in a joint statement.
“When we were choosing a track to cover, ‘Anxiety’ stood out because it’s already been flipped, which made it more of a challenge. We wanted to push ourselves and step outside our comfort zone.”
Additionally, Nova Twins recorded a new version of their latest ‘Piranha’ – the original of which will appear on their third album ‘Parasites & Butterflies’, out August 29 via Marshall. Listen to their full Spotify Singles collection here:
Doechii first shared ‘Anxiety’ – which is built around a sample of Gotye‘s 2011 hit ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ – on YouTube in 2019. The song went viral earlier this year, and Doechii released a re-recorded version in March.
It peaked at Number Nine on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US, marking the artist’s first top 10 single in the States. ‘Anxiety’ went in a Number Three in the UK, scoring Doechii her first top five on these shores.
Both Doechii and Nova Twins are set to perform at Glastonbury 2025 this month. The former will headline West Holts on the Saturday night (June 28), with the latter scheduled for Woodsies that afternoon.
Nova Twins have also previewed the forthcoming ‘Parasites & Butterflies’ with the singles ‘Monsters’ and ‘Soprano’. Last month, they delivered a live cover of Charli XCX and Billie Eilish’s ‘Guess’ at the BBC Maida Vale Studios.
They are set to embark on a 2025 European and UK tour this autumn – find any remaining tickets here (UK). Additionally, the duo will support Biffy Clyro at two huge gigs at the Eden Sessions in Cornwall next month.
Speaking to NME at the start of this year, Nova Twins looked ahead to releasing their “chaotic but beautiful” new album.
“There are so many different flavours, so expect a journey,” teased Georgia South. “There’s a lot of light and shade. It’s also a very honest album.”
Amy Love agreed: “We weren’t chasing specific sounds, we just did whatever felt most exciting. We weren’t scared about where that went either. There are songs like ‘Monsters’ but there’s also a lot of fun as well.”
‘Parasites & Butterflies’ will follow on from Nova Twins’ Mercury Prize-nominated 2022 LP, ‘Supernova’.
