CMAT has shared the empowering new single ‘Take A Sexy Picture Of Me’, which calls out those who have previously criticised her appearance.

The single marks the latest to be shared from the Irish singer-songwriter’s new album ‘EURO-COUNTRY’. Set to arrive on August 29, Ciara Mary-Alice Thompson announced the record back in March and also shared the first preview in the form of uplifting lead single ‘Running/Planning’.
Now, the latest track to be shared shows another side of the forthcoming record, and sees CMAT boldly stand up to those trying to knock others down with hateful comments.
“So you see/ I’ve been having a horrible time/ Of late, I get none of your sympathy/ But all of the pain hits and the fog lifts/ And then it’s too much for therapy,” she sings in the build-up to the chorus. Check it out below.
“With the internet, every woman is now in the public eye. And no matter who you are, or what you look like, somebody will take umbrage with the fact that you even exist, and there’s no escaping it,” CMAT explained. “‘Take a Sexy Picture of Me’ was born out of that, because I held back for so long; not out of frustration or sadness for myself, because I AM in the public eye, but I realised it’s actually like this for every woman.
“It’s all women, all the time. That song is me calling out anyone who criticised my weight or how I looked… and it’s one of the best songs I’ve ever made.”
As for the record as a whole, CMAT shared that her third album marks a new chapter in her songwriting ability, and is one that she is most proud of.
“EURO-COUNTRY is, I think, the best thing I have ever made. I felt halfway through recording it was the most important record I’ve made for myself… mainly because it was making me go crazy,” she shared. “I’m always going to make the work I want to make, because there is a little gremlin in my head that tells me if it’s shit.
“More than success, there’s a bigger gremlin that wants me to make music that’s really good. She’s brutal and has ruined my life at times, but she is the keeper of my life and she’s always right.” Visit here to pre-order.
Later this month, CMAT will make an appearance as a musical guest on Later… With Jools Holland. From there she will be playing huge festival slots at Primavera, Wide Awake and Glastonbury.
Recently she also confirmed details of four Glasto warm-up gigs, taking place across the UK shortly before the Worthy Farm appearance, as well as a UK and European tour for 2025. The latter includes a gig at Dublin’s 3Arena in December, and you can find tickets to upcoming live shows here.
‘EURO-COUNTRY’ will mark the follow-up to 2023’s ‘Crazymad, For Me’, which went on to get a BRITs Best International Artist nod; a ‘Best Album’ nomination from the Ivors, a Mercury Prize shortlist slot, and the Choice Music Prize in her native Ireland.
Speaking to NME about ‘Euro-Country’ while on the 2025 BRITs red carpet, CMAT explained: “There is lots and lots of new music and it’s coming very soon. I spent all of September to December working on it in a hole in New York City. It’s done now. I lost my mind there for a bit, but it sounds great.” Check out that interview above.
