On Monday, (April 29), Sheeran took to Instagram to reveal that he’s quietly been putting together a second Instagram account in which he reflects on his life in 2015. The account is named Teddy’s Old Phone, and has been posting decade-old pictures over the past month, slowly but quietly building a following, which now sits at 212K followers.

Shared on the archival Instagram account ahead of the release of his new single, ‘Old Phone’ are over 200 posts including personal photos, which see the ‘Shape Of You’ singer pictured alongside the likes of Harry Styles, Niall Horan, Usher, Sam Smith, Elton John and more.

Among the photos is one of a jar of jam given to him by Swift, referencing her public spat with West. “Yo Ed,” Swift wrote on the label. “I’m really happy 4 you and I’m gonna let u finish but this is the best jam of all time – T.”

Their acrimonious history famously dates back to the 2009 VMAs, where, during Swift’s winning speech for Best Music Video, West interrupted the then 19-year-old to announce: “Yo, Taylor, I’m really happy for you, I’mma let you finish, but Beyoncé had one of the best videos of all time! One of the best videos of all time!” – something he later apologised for.

At the time, he expressed regret, saying: “I would not want some crazy drunk rock star cutting my daughter off also.” However, he seemingly backtracked with the admission that: “My daughter would 100-per cent also be like, ‘Yes Beyonce did have the best video.’ That’s what my daughter would do.”

The pair did seem to make amends at the 2015 Grammys, but things quickly soured when West released his ‘Famous’ song and video. There, he rapped about how Swift “owes” him sex and claimed that he “made that bitch famous”. Additionally, he portrayed her nude in bed (via a wax figurine) with a host of other celebrities.

Swift later claimed that she was “horrified” by the visuals, and went on to write about the debacle in 2017 album ‘Reputation’. The incident also triggered a dispute with Kim Kardashian, West’s former wife.

The old photos being shared by Sheeran provide some backstory for his upcoming song, which was inspired by his time being sued for copyright claims years back, when he had to go through an old phone for evidence and was swept up in emotions reliving his past memories.

Sheeran first previewed ‘Old Phone’ during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon last month, and more recently released the video for ‘Azizam’ – which is named after a Persian term of endearment that translates to “my dear” or “my beloved” – and it sees the singer joining in with a lively Persian wedding.

It is the first release from his upcoming album ‘Play’, which has yet to be given an official release date. Sheeran has also confirmed that a new track called ‘Sapphire’ will be released in the coming months, and he revealed that he plans to share new music every two or three weeks.

The singer-songwriter is due to play a run of European shows from May to September 2025 before finishing up the year with performances in Bhutan, India, Qatar and Bahrain.

Elsewhere, last week he joined forces with Noah Kahan to perform a short acoustic duet set in a Nashville pub, and before that he played Coachella 2025, where he was announced as a late addition for the Mojave Stage. He also joined Post Malone for the latter’s festival-closing set last weekend – check out footage here.
