Fans have been reacting to the trailer for Mark Wahlberg’s new film Flight Risk.

The action film, directed by Mel Gibson, sees Wahlberg play a bald hitman on a private plane.

The plot focuses on a government witness (Topher Grace) being escorted by an FBI agent (Downton Abbey‘s Michelle Dockery) on a flight piloted by Wahlberg. The pair collide on the small plane which is charting a course over the Alaskan wilderness.

Fans have been reacting to the trailer and Wahlberg’s role, which is a departure for the actor.

“I was not expecting to see Marky Mark with this hairstyle. That caught me off guard,” one wrote while another added: “I’m not used to seeing mark as a villain.”

As for what fans thought of the trailer, there was a division of opinion with one writing: “it’s crazy that the worst film of 2025 is coming out so early,” while another added: “Doesn’t look great to me. Mark Walhberg doing the wrong kind of a stretch.”

Others though praised the forthcoming movie. “It’s gonna be a really great action film,” one fan wrote. “It will be great to watch an action film from a cast we’re not used to.”

Another added: “Wahlberg looks like the villain, and I’m on board for it.”

Speaking about the film, Wahlberg said: “Audiences, at first, are going to think, ‘Here comes Mark to do something to save the day, but nope,” Wahlberg said in a press release via IndieWire. “Fifteen minutes into the film, you realise this is not what you thought it was going to be.”

Gibson added: “It’s about Mark letting his dark side out in between running his empire and eating lunch with his kids. He is a multi-dimensional performer who has managed to find the essence of a deranged, bald-headed sociopath.”

Wahlberg was last seen in Netflix’s The Union, a spy comedy that he co-starred in with Halle Berry.

Flight Risk is set to open in US and UK cinemas on January 24.
