Fans of Henry Cavill have reacted angrily to a new teaser for James Gunn’s Superman, believing the Man Of Steel actor is better than his successor, David Corenswet.

The issue surrounds a new clip of Corenswet’s superhero flying in the film, which comes to cinemas on July 11. Taking to X (formerly Twitter), one user posted: “The downgrade is insane”, above two videos comparing Corenswet with Cavill.

Another wrote “Let’s remind you exactly what Superman flying looks like” with a clip from Man Of Steel, adding: “Henry Cavill IS Superman”. One fan made fun of the way Corenswet’s face looks while in flight, editing an image of Mr Bean’s face onto his body.

Not everyone was negative about the new footage, however. “THAT’S MY SUPERMAN” wrote one excited fan, while another said: “I really wanna see this fight with Superman and Ultraman after seeing how amazing the flying is”, adding a fight scene previously seen in the teaser trailer.

One post praised everything about the new film, writing: “Every time I see anything about it I’m giddy. Bright, dynamic & just the right amount of goofy. Already looking like the most ‘Supermany’ Superman flick. General audience is poised and ready for the Man of Steel”.

The new film will kick off Gunn’s reimagined DC Universe, which looks to reboot various DC characters after the previous DC Extended Universe, which included Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman. It will be followed in 2026 by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, with House Of The Dragon actor Milly Alcock playing the title role.

The first Superman trailer debuted in December, revealing Superman’s dog Krypto in his live-action debut. Last summer, The Boys star Jack Quaid revealed he auditioned for the title role, saying: “I didn’t get very far”.
