Marvel Rivals launched in December and let players choose from a rooster of 33 heroes, spanning three different roles. Last week saw the launch of a bumper season one update that introduced The Fantastic Four’s Mr Fantastic and The Invisible Woman to the team-based hero shooter.
The second chapter of season one will go live in February and see The Thing and The Human Torch join the Marvel Rivals ranks. Now developers have confirmed new characters will be added to the game every six weeks going forward.

Speaking to Metro, game director Guangyun Chen said: “Every season we’ll be rolling out fresh seasonal stories, new maps, and new heroes. We’ll actually be breaking down each season into two halves. The length of one season is three months. And for each half of the season, we will introduce a new hero.
“Our choice of heroes will be guided by the overall gameplay experience or theme that we want to create for each season,” he added. “We just eventually want to continue to enhance the experience and keep everyone excited in our community.”
As it stands, evidence of a number of new characters has been found in existing game data, with the likes of Deadpool, Captain Marvel and Ultron all rumoured to be coming to Marvel Rivals in the near future.
The season one update for Marvel Rivals helped the game have its busiest ever weekend, according to Steam’s concurrent player tally. However the new update has shut down a majority of player-made mods via a new “asset hash checking” tool. Developers have warned that “it is not recommended to modify any game files, as doing so carries the risk of getting banned,” but several updated mods have been uploaded to sites like Nexus Mods.
In other news, PlayStation has revealed new AI-assisted tech that will allow the console to predict what your next button press will be. It follows a new prototype that enables gamers to smell what they’re playing.
