Quentin Tarantino has been described as a “naturally gifted” actor by the director of a new film he is appearing in.

The veteran film-maker has appeared in many of his own films as an actor, and co-starred with George Clooney in 1996 horror film From Dusk ‘Till Dawn. He will soon appear in Only What We Carry, playing a face from the past who disturbs a reunion between old friends, played by Simon Pegg and Charlotte Gainsbourg.

This will be his most significant acting role since the ‘90s, and a rare instance where he is acting in a film that he that is neither writing or directing. Speaking to Variety, the director of the movie Jamie Adams was asked about Tarantino’s abilities on the project. “He’s an exceptional actor. Naturally gifted. I’m proud the film gives him the opportunity to show that.”

When pressed about whether this could be a new chapter for his career, he enthused: “Absolutely. Maybe the writing and directing were just the beginning.” Quentin Tarantino has often stated his next film will be the last he directs, and has expressed interest in theatre and novel writing as a next step in his career.

In December, the director made headlines with podcast comments about the actor Paul Dano, whom he called a “weak, uninteresting guy” during an assessment of his performance in the 2007 drama There Will Be Blood. The comments drew backlash from various people around Hollywood, including former co-star George Clooney who called the criticism “cruel.”

Paul Dano only recently broke his silence on the matter, expressing gratitude for the number of people who have spoken in his favour. Matthew Lillard, who was criticised by the director during the same podcast, also spoke about his feelings about Tarantino’s comments, saying that to hear negativity from a prominent figure in the industry “hurts”.
