Stephen Graham has talked about problems with egos within the entertainment industry, and how he tried to ensure none of that was a problem on his new TV show.

The British actor, famous for his roles in This Is England, The Irishman, and the Venom films, appears in new series A Thousand Blows, a period piece set in 1880s London where the leader of an all-female crime syndicate (Erin Doherty) clashes with the kingpin of the city’s bare knuckle boxing scene (Graham).

The show was created by Stephen Knight, the man behind Peaky Blinders, with Graham serving as executive producer. Given his behind the scenes role, the actor wanted to ensure a harmonious atmosphere while filming the show, implementing a “no twats” policy on set.

“I’m just going to be honest, there are a lot of twats in this industry, do you know what I mean?” he told The Guardian during an interview. “There are loads of egos and I really don’t like that. The industry should have changed and with the ethos of our little company we are trying to move it in the right direction. I want people to skip to work”.

Graham has a busy filming schedule, having been announced as a cast member for the forthcoming Peaky Blinders movie as well as playing Bruce Springsteen’s father in the biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere.

Last year, it emerged that the actor could be subject to a Football Association (FA) probe after he was accused of calling a non-league referee a “fucking Teletubby” and “fat useless twat” during a game between Barrow Town and Heather St John’s Reserves in Leicester while there with his son to watch his nephew play. The actor reportedly “apologised profusely” after the incident.
