The successor to the Nintendo Switch was announced earlier this year in a hardware-focused teaser trailer and today (April 2), an hour-long Direct presentation revealed more details about the upcoming console.
As well as confirming a bigger, more powerful bit of kit, Nintendo shared a number of games that will be coming to the Switch 2 when it launches on June 5.
As well as brand new Mario Kart game World, a new entry in the Kirby: Airiders series and Donkey Kong Bananza, a number of iconic third-party titles will also be available on the Switch 2. Both Elden Ring and an upgraded version of Hogwarts Legacy will be available at launch, as will co-op fantasy game Split Fiction and Hitman: World Of Assassination.
It’s also been confirmed Borderlands 4 will launch on the Nintendo Switch 2, though a firm release date hasn’t yet been announced. The Duskbloods, a new game from Elden Ring director Hidetaka Miyazaki, will also be released exclusively on the Switch 2 in 2026.
The hour-long Direct also revealed Star Wars Outlaws, Final Fantasy 7 Intergrade and Yakuza 0 Director’s Cut would also be coming to the Switch.
A number of Gamecube classics are also set to come to the new console via Nintendo’s online library. Three titles have been confirmed so far (The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker, Soulcalibur 2 and F-Zero: GX) with more to be announced in the coming weeks.
The Switch 2 will launch June 5 but Nintendo has yet to reveal details about price or how to pre-order the console. It has confirmed another Direct for April 17, but that will be focused on Mario Kart World.
In other news, HazeLight founder Josef Fares has responded to reports that the studio’s recent game Split Fiction is set to be turned into a Hollywood blockbuster. “You know what I say? I believe it when I see it, because nothing has happened yet,” he said. “It would be nice if it happened, but again, I’ll believe it when I see it. Sometimes there’s a lot of talks, but nothing happens. So we will see.”
