For Christmas this year, the MI5 tapped Oldman to narrate a contemporary take on ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas’ for its social media channels. Titled A Christmas Story from MI5, the clip depicts several agents (with their identities concealed) at work at their London headquarters as Oldman narrates in character as Slow Horses‘ Jackson Lamb.

Oldman narrates as Lamb: “’Twas the night before Christmas when all through Thames House not a creature was stirring, just the click of a mouse. Then footsteps on stairwells, then flickering screens, the clackety keyboards of a hundred machines. The hustle, the bustle, the hive of activity, not the typical scene of your Christmas nativity.”

He continues: “So while people at home wrap last-minute gifts, the staff inside Thames will be changing their shifts. From us all at 5, we wish you festive delight. Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.”

The MI5 wrote in their caption to accompany the video:“At MI5 this Christmas we’ve decided to forgo the traditional turkey in favour of some lamb – Jackson Lamb. We thought it high time he swapped Slough House for Thames House and while he was briefly away from his Slow Horses, we asked him to record a special Christmas message from all of us to all of you. Our staff will be working throughout this festive period to keep the U.K. safe from national security threats. From everyone at MI5, we wish you a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.”

Slow Horses concluded its fourth season in October. In January this year, a fifth season was announced, and is expected to premiere sometime in late 2025. Ahead of season five’s premiere, a sixth season has also been greenlit.

The show is based on the Slough House series of novels by Mick Herron and revolves around a group of British intelligence officers who have been demoted after having made significant mistakes. Gary Oldman stars as Jackson Lamb, the head of Slough House, alongside Kristin Scott Thomas, Jack Lowden and Jonathan Pryce.

Slow Horses clinched the 14th spot in NME‘s Best TV Shows of 2024 list, with Elizabeth Aubrey writing: “As ever, the show still didn’t shy away from character deaths: we had two unexpected, violent losses. Can season five possibly top this? You wouldn’t bet against it.”
