Chance Perdomo as Andre in Gen V

The Boys spin-off Gen V returns with an emotionally-charged second season following the tragic death of one of its cast members.

Chance Perdomo, who played Andre Anderson in the show’s first season, died aged 27 in a motorcycle accident in New York on March 29, 2024. To honour the actor, the showrunners decided not to recast the character and instead rewrote Gen V’s second season.

The first three episodes of season two debuted on September 17, with the remaining five episodes set to air weekly until October 22, 2025.

Andre exists in Gen V season 2 as a posthumous character who is central to the narrative. In the first episode, we learn Andre has died off-screen when Emma (Lizze Broadway) visits his father Polarity (Sean Patrick Thomas) who is grieving his son – although it’s initially unclear as to what caused his death.

At the end of the episode, Emma (Lizze Broadway) and Jordan (Derek Luh) catch up with Marie (Jazz Sinclair) and explain how Andre was inspired by Marie’s escape from the Elmira rehabilitation facility.

While trapped in the facility with Emma and Jordan, Andre had discovered a way out through a metal maintenance pipe using his magnetic telepathy, but when the time came to escape with the others, someone had covered up the opening with a brick, so he couldn’t pull it open. Andre tried to open a steel door instead, but he was stubborn and suffered a stroke because his powers weren’t strong enough.

The exact cause of Andre’s death is clarified in episode two, when Cipher (Hamish Linklater) explains to Marie that Andre suffered from the same condition as his father Polarity: worsening neural micro-tears the more he used his powers.

Andre’s death looks set to ripple throughout season two. In episode three, Jordan announces his death to the entire campus – despite Vought’s attempts to cover it up. “I want you to know that Andre died a hero, trying to get us free,” they remark. The crowd, however, are reluctant to believe Jordan’s version of events.

Does Gen V pay tribute to Chance Perdomo?

Along with honouring Perdomo’s character Andre, Gen V season two opens with a “For Chance” title card in the first episode.
