AI ‘actress’ Tilly Norwood will make her debut in “coming-of-age story” ‘Misaligned’

Tilly Norwood

Tilly Norwood, the AI creation marketed as a future movie star, is set to be the lead of a new, AI feature film.

Norwood, a white, brunette and brown-eyed AI character presented as an actor, was showcased by Dutch actor and comedian Eline Van der Velden at the Zurich Film Festival last year, and is the property of production company Particle 6. The initial unveiling drew industry-wide criticism, led by actors Emily Blunt and Natasha Lyonne.

Now, Variety reports that Norwood will “star” in its first movie, titled Misaligned, and intended to be the first in a franchise set in the “Tillyverse”, a surreal digital world. The film follows Norwood as a seductive bot convinces the character to to develop human-like desires, impulses, and ambitions.

Particle 6 insists the film will be a “hybrid production”, with human input working alongside technology. “The film will absolutely be funny, chaotic and self-aware — very Tilly,” Van der Velden told the outlet.“But underneath it, there’s something deeper about identity, performance, and our very human fears around AI. And yes, art will most definitely be imitating life.”

Tilly Norwood can currently be viewed on Instagram in various AI generated shorts satirising Spotify, this year’s Cannes film festival, and actor show reels. In March, Particle 6 described the “Tillyverse” as a “dynamic, constantly evolving digital universe where Tilly and a new generation of AI characters will live, collaborate and build careers”.

AI has been a divisive topic in Hollywood, with everyone from Backrooms director Kane Parsons to Pope Leo XIV condemning the use of the technology.

Martin Scorsese has received criticism for endorsing an AI firm for the purposes of storyboarding, while Jodie Foster claimed the Brad Pitt film F1 was created by AI in a defence of the technology (F1 has no confirmed use of AI in its production).
